AVN – AEE

AVN2010

Ciao! This week AVN is upon us .I’m going to call it AVN because that’s what I remember calling the Adult Industry Expo held once a year in Las Vegas , Nevada . I’m not sure when it changed over to AEE . I’m going to recall some of my own personal time at the Expo and share some tips and tricks of what worked for me during this crazy fun time of The Porn Oscars….. I’ve always said that this is the week and on the awards night we are all validated for our hard work we put into our productions, content, branding and image .Why is  this validation among our peers so important? To some of us it’s not. To others it’s their entire existence.  To have your movie nominated and your scenes  is something that causes some ladies to have a full on panic attack, or its complete  excitement.  Me personally I didn’t really care so much. My reputation and bank account were way more important to me. The directors and agents were just as bad, pitting the ladies against each other  and saying “oh if you win your movies will sell more and you will make more money and get the box cover! YOU could even get a contract “I did win a few awards and my gratitude has always been directed to my fans . So why are we  even going to the AVN show? It’s about your fans. It’s the one week that fans get to meet us in person. They get an autograph and photo with their favorite star  plus it great for talent to network and sell merchandise .The lines and days are long. I remember signing for a MINIMUM of 8-9 hours those days. I always did my own hair and make up. I also bought my own coffee pot TIP 1!  (Hello Kitty of Course)!  Chopper was at every show, and you never saw me without a bottle of water. I had a bag of snacks, and a bag of goods that I always packed. Being  in a casino for a week straight you’d be surprised at how much money you save bringing just a few things from home that can treat a variety of things that can pop up. You may or may not have time to run out and get stuff or send someone so trust me if you’re driving pack a few of these extra things and if you’re flying, then you can stop at CVS or Walgreens and get these extras super easy. It will save you time and money. Before my tips here’s my brief story of my first AVN: It was Jan 2000 and I was signing with Teri Weigal, Nikki Tyler and Julia Ann! So much fun! Teri was so kind. She showed me how to sign my name. I mean I didn’t think I’d be signing autographs my first show So why would I need to know how to sign “Tera Patrick” and then come up with all these cute sayings with it?  So naive I was..Over the years I took turns signing at my own booth TeraVision and the Vivid booth. I can remember so many women whom I looked up to just being so kind . Jeanna Fine, Sharon Mitchell, Amber Lynn, Chloe, and Janine.. I was so starstruck when I met Janine  for the first time.. I still am! She will always my favorite. She’s just so fierce and beautiful . hope your AVN kicks ass and you gals and guys make TONS of money! I hope it’s a positive experience for you and I hope what I’ve done and learned along the way helps a bit!! Have fun XO Tera BE NICE!! I can’t stress this enough! I know it’s freakin hard especially after a long ass day but the new girls could use kindness.  Fans often travel so far just to meet you and It’s humble of them to approach you after waiting in line so if they say something annoying just smile and try to deflect. They might just be nervous! YourHealth! Drink water! Buy a case at CVS and keep it in your room , get some electrolytes or Zinc tabs for immunity . You could also put a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in your water bottle and drink that first thing when you wake up. You’re coming in contact with so many people so keep your immune system strong! Wet Wipes (I prefer these to hand sanitizer . Kind Bars , protein bars, nuts, dried fruit, whole grain crackers, string cheese, tuna kits, apples, bananas, these don’t need to be refrigerated (the cheese yes) and can tuck into your bag /purse easily for a pick me up… Don’t starve yourself! At least every 3 hours you should drink a bottle of water and have a snack. I know it’s hard to take breaks but 15 minutes to recharge every few hours is necessary to keep you going, your mood up and your body happy  so it’s worth it!! Bring a small coffee pot if you can / electric tea kettle if your room already has one AWESOME!! Some don’t. I use mine to make my own coffee in the AM, tea at night and sometimes soups and stuff when I’m on the road. You can get one for cheap at CVS too and leave it behind if needed I mean hey you’ve probably spent way more money on something you didn’t need and I can assure you that after long ass days NOT wanting to go down and stand in line for coffee in the AM and having a nice cup of hot tea before bed is worth the 20$ you will spend on one at CVS to get you through the week!! I also brought a heating pad with me on those trips but I like one on my back and feet after long days and they fold up easy in

Thai Curry in a hurry

Good evening it’s dinnertime around here  who’s ready for some Thai curry ! There are five different types of Thai curry I grew up with that my mother and father always cooked. My mother is Thai and my father is English /Dutch. My father was in Thailand during his two tours in Vietnam  and he cooked a lot. It was when he was courting my mom that he  learned Thai cooking from her family. Both my parents are incredible cooks and growing up as a child  all of my friends were white. Thai food wasn’t as hip as it is today and I can remember not wanting to carry Massaman curry for lunch and trying to trade that for a bologna sandwich in first grade. So not happening lol My best friend and only friend who dared eat with me at lunch was a Lebanese girl, Anita who’s food might have been smellier than mine  just a tad… Fish sauce and crab paste are hard to beat though!! Anyway back to curries! I made Massman but my personal favorite is Red curry. Green curry has become bitter tasting to me but I still love it and the yellow is fragrant and mild. It’s comforting to me. In order of spiciness we have: 1.Green Curry I usually cook this with veggies only. I make proteins but keep them on the side because veggies seem to just really soak up how spicy these green chilis can be! I use mostly Eggplant with this curry it really soaks up the flavor! Eggplant, Zucchini, baby corn that’s it so good! 2.Red curry which is my favorite curry! It’s spicy but rich and sweet. It’s the perfect mix! Red curry paste is Thai Red Chilies, crushed with garlic, lemongrass, shallots, ginger, and fish sauce.   For protein I use chicken, tofu or shrimp with usually zucchini, spinach, or kale.I only use two combinations so I would do shrimp and kale or chicken and spinach or tofu and zucchini. To me adding too many things doesn’t allow you to taste all the different flavors and spices! 3.Yellow curry is mild and rich. This is my “baby Curry ” Many people I know who don’t care for too much spice or just want something exotic but  can’t climb to even a medium level (BELIEVE ME there are peeps) I cook this one. The base of this paste is turmeric, cumin, mustard seed, nutmeg, kaffir lime leaves and lime juice. This I cook with pretty much the same two ingredients chicken and Potato. Similar to this curry is Massaman, it’s Indian influenced with cinnamon, cloves and peanut flavors. It’s not spicy at all it’s more sweet and  also very comforting. So how do you cook these curries! Well there is a pretty easy formula and it’s like this. Use The curry Pastes. Don’t try to make it from scratch. I mean if you WANT to by all means but the Curry pastes already have all you need, you can even get two, three maybe even four uses out of the canned  curry pastes! If you do want to make your own curry paste from scratch my favorite Thai Chef Pai from http://youtube.com/@PailinsKitchen  has an incredible Thai cooking channel that I often find myself going to since I don’t have my Mom around . I photographed  the two brands I use. The one in the can Maseri does NOT have any Fish, crab or shrimp paste in it. It’s suitable for vegans and like I said it’s just the chilies and spices grounded into the paste. boom done. The one in the pouch is also a great brand BUT some of them like the Tom Ka and a few of the soup pastes have MSG or fish / shrimp pastes in them.. Yea Not NO I can’t do either… This is where I’m considered “Fake Thai ” lol MSG a flavor enhancer is common in asian foods and it makes me itch so bad so I really rake over the labels to make sure it’s MSG free!! I also found this brand called “Roland ” and it’s from Malaysia. I was shopping at the mercado in Costa Rica and I found many of my curry pastes and just asian sauces in general!! It’s funny I have to shop for my Thai groceries every time I travel to another country NOT home in Italy. Crazy right? This Roland brand I bought the Yellow Curry Paste and the Sweet Thai Chili Sauce which is SO tasty for dipping egg rolls, spring rolls, dumplings, gyoza, chicken satay, I mean just pour it all over your plate. Now I’m  getting hungry …I will have some more amazing recipes for you guys XO Enjoy! Heat your pan or pot with a little sesame oil and add a one teaspoon of curry paste. Sauté this together for a minute , you want to release the herbs , spices and aromatics into the oil.  Now add some veggie broth. I use a veggie bouillon cube and about one cup water let that simmer.  Then add your coconut milk.If you use fresh lemon grass you will want to peel off the outer  stalks until you get to the inside fresh fragrant ones. Cut lengthwise into small pieces and boil them in the beginning when you add your water- veggie broth. You can also cut up extra pieces of ginger and boil it at this time. Lemon grass takes time to cook so if using fresh add it at the beginning. Curry cooks fast about 10 minutes let it boil but not a hard boil for a maximum of 15 minutes from the time you start your sauté .You don’t want to overcook your veggies and the coconut milk will have a “burnt” taste. If you want to add lime juice do it at the end after you’ve turned off the heat . You want to taste the freshness of the lime juice . I always cook my proteins separately.

Healthy Easy Tacos

My favorite easy healthy go to meal is tacos. Everyday is a great day for tacos and they are non existent where I live in Italy.  We have a taqueria that just opened up in our piazza so I’m going to do a drive by and check them out  I made some yummy tacos this week with some small adjustments so I wanted to make a post about them . We are overdue for an LA trip and you’ll find me at Trejo’s http://trejostacos.com     Get creative and use any kind of protein. I’ve used Tempeh and Tofu when making vegetarian tacos but my favorite tacos are fish and shrimp .I don’t have a market that sells corn tortillas so I’ve had to tweek my tacos a bit. My sister Debra  buys masa and hand makes tortillas and tamales. She’s amazing like that but me no. I don’t have the patience or skill to handle masa lol  Christmas is when I gorge myself on her amazing cooking and let’s be real , It’s so much better when someone else cooks for you . I use a lettuce leaf and it’s like a hand taco salad. I don’t make fancy guacamole. I think avocados only need salt and Lime like Tequila. For salsa I just chop tomatoes, garlic, lime, salt, pepper and I roast one bell pepper red or  yellow. I drizzle the yellow pepper with olive oil and cumin, salt, and red pepper flakes. Roast it in your oven for 15 minutes at 200c /400F . When it cools you can chop it up and add it to the tomatoes. It’s a nice smokey slightly sweet, salty, salsa. I don’t use onion in my salsa’s or garlic. If it’s added in at a restaurant it’s ok.I love garlic but onions not so much . Just scoop your protein on top of your lettuce leaf, top it with salsa and then avocado .  Enjoy  XO Tera

Cabazon ! Tera Patrick’s Big Adventure ..

T-Rex

I know about seventy five percent of you will get this reference… “Everyone I know has a big butt, let’s talk about your big but….” It’s such a sweet and well kind of life changing scene that happens in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. While sitting in this giant T-Rex in Cabazon Pee – Wee and Simone watch the sun rise and ponder life… Being a California Native I never made my way to Cabazon . It wasn’t until I watched Pee Wee’s Big Adventure  that I finally said one night “um where the heck are these Dino’s and are they real? ” Why yes this cute little tourist trap park exists and it’s http://cabazondinosaurs.com Now YOU  can go into the T-Rex and Ponder life like PW and Simone. It’s been open since 1975 and it’s always been one of those iconic Cali pit stops . It’s not as big inside as it looked onscreen but  it’s cute and fun to ascend the  steps until voila you’re the mouth!! You have to pay 15$ to go around the path and see all Dinos There’s  also a gift shoppe inside with kitchy stuff. Alberto and I got some Large Marge cafe mugs. It’s cute and worth a stop!! These first pics are when I first went in 2012 and Sophia was a year or maybe even just a few months old! If you’re road trippin through CA yes it’s worth it to stop here :}} XO Tera

Great Wall of Tera

Lisa , Lindsay and I

My recent visit to Maui reconnected me with one of my oldest and best girlfriends Lisa Boyle. I first met Lisa in 2003.  I was starting out on my own in 2003  and determined to rebrand myself and start fresh. My adult film company Teravision was just about to start filming its first production and my website was now under my full control. Right away I loved Lisa. She’s an Iconic model and actress in her own right http://lisaboyle.tumblr.com Her personality made the long shoot days fly by and so fun. “Get up on this table! Hike this hill (in Jimmy Choo heels) here’s a cigarette, lets paint you in glitter then dunk you in the ocean ” she was super creative but also knew she had to get those critical “pink” shots so desired by all the Porn film companies, and fans. Lisa Boyle has probably shot a good fifty percent of my website and many many editorial pieces and fashion spreads for me. When I had my daughter  in 2012 Lisa came over and shot newborn Sophia and I together. I cherish those photos so much. One month after giving birth I agreed to shoot with Lisa again, she was going to publish a cool photo book compiling all of her work . I’ve never really been self conscious of the many phases my body has gone through. In 2012 as I am here yes, a month after giving birth I’m still a bit “swollen” if you will but I love seeing myself here. I was blissfully happy even shooting while I was pregnant. Pregnancy was good to me and it remains one of the most incredible periods of my life :} This Tera Wall was Lisa’s idea. I think I took her into my storage closet to show her GOD only knows what, and she saw my “supplies”.  Stacks upon stacks of 8×10’s, posters, cards etc..  and she said “yes iI have an idea!! Her and Lindsay Hancock  (bomb ass make- up artist and model who I LOVE) “built” the Tera Wall. It’s kinda cool to see a lot of your work on a wall. All these different phases I went though with my hair, make-up, body. I’m hoping to pull the pics Lisa and I took that day, they were on a Macbook that I hope and pray isn’t forever lost  Both are gone and had more than thirty thousand images on them :{ If I EVER do recover them they are going on terapatrick.com first!! Such a fun memory of shooting enJOY XO Tera

Chopper

Chopper!! My beloved Chopper!! I have this special “boing boing” sound my phone makes when I receive a text from my dad and the latest caption reads”proof of life!!” DAD!!! I’m like come on It’s a grainy pic of Chopper in his bed.My dad who cares for Chopper full time now likes to send me pics knowing in the past when he doesn’t respond to my” how’s Chopper’ queries fast enough I will ask for “proof” he’s still got Chopper! I’ve even asked for him to pose with the days paper… I know what you’re thinking! Who the f$$k still reads the paper and she’s nutso.. And so if you’re new here you may also be wondering who is Chopper? Chopper is my Toy Fox Terrier. He’s turning 17 on December 5th. He now resides in Malibu with my dad because it isn’t easy traveling the world with him like it once was.He has his own passport and yes traveled the world with me, thirty countries at least!! I had a backpack for him and many times he just stayed in my purse. He has been my constant companion,  and was my first “baby”. Pets are extremely cathartic for us aren’t they? I know that two very difficult periods in my life were made easier by my little guy. They absorb so much of our feelings and stress and are able to comfort us with just their presence. I found Chopper one afternoon in 2003 while driving in Florida. I was there to do an in store appearance (remember those) and ended up in a town called Pembroke Pines. It was a place that masqueraded as a pet shoppe but was in fact a puppy mill… I won’t go into specifics but that ended up being one of the best days of my life and we were meant to be together. I believe in some ways  rescued each other. The years have passed and I’ve seen Chopper through his many heath issues.  He was kidnapped and held for ransom by a fan (read about it in my memoir Sinner Takes All) https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/305692/sinner-takes-all-by-tera-patrick/ and he survived my first marriage with me . I became pregnant with my daughter Sophia in 2012. Chopper and I first  moved to Vancouver BC, then Chicago to be close to my daughters father who was working on the film “Man of Steele” at the time. Having Chopper was my everything. He was my constant companion as I explored the new cities I was in, shared in some of my food cravings, I shopped for baby stuff with him taking up most of my purse, and since many nights were spent shooting, Chopper and I would fall asleep to many marathons of “Alfred Hitchcock presents” Cyd Charisse movies, and Forensic Files. Every few months as I make it back to California to see my dad (really Chopper lol) I cherish all the moments I still have with him. I hope you enjoy some of these pictures. I have so many and these I found recently and wanted to Share. Comment please and tell me if you have a pet XO Tera

Palm Springs Pin-up Girl

I love Film Noir type films and classic cinema.Back in the glamour days The Rat Pack, and most of my famous classic cinema stars I adore so much had homes in Palm Springs where they would often escape the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and take refuge here. I personally find the Palm desert and desert landscapes to be very pretty. One of my favorites is Joshua Tree park http://www.nps.gov/jotr/index.htm Quick sidestep : In 2008 when I felt I had enough of my Hollywood life (for like a week) I checked into the We Care Health Spa in Desert Hot Springs.  I thought “oh eight days with no food and people, colonics, tonics, infrared sauna, and meditating is like SO what I need”. I guess it was. I felt better in some ways and  definitely had a clearer perspective! In 2012 I did a photoshoot for Pin -up Girl Clothing http://pinupgirlclothing.com a beautiful elegant brand of retro style clothing created by Laura Byrnes  based in Burbank California. We were to shoot in Palm Springs at the Riviera Resort hotel http://rivierahotel.comand it was  just lovely. I love modeling, it’s actually my first love and  if you can believe I started my career with my clothes on! Such beautiful clothing I had a blast. My favorite dress to wear was The Lorelei which was inspired by Marilyn Monroe in Gentleman prefer Blondes. The resort itself is very pretty and I’m not even exaggerating they had the  BEST fish tacos! I had them every meal. In palm springs… at the Riviera… who knew?? Not the best model diet but hey I’m in clothes… so eat up right!!! The photos were featured on Pin Up girl’s website. I was invited back for New Years 2013 to do a feature burlesque show with some of the other  models and did a few other appearances and shows with PUG… It was a lovely experience. I can’t recommend much for Palm Springs. I did find the Riviera to be lovely and the service was outstanding. I had a delicious dinner at http://roosterandthepig.com it’s Vietnamese and they have a good cocktail list. Kings Highway http://kingshighwaydiner.com had good food and I liked the atmosphere I did find some country western shops because my sister LOVES this stuff She’s a little bit country and I am VERY Rock and Roll.. actually I am Metal lol and I found her a beautiful pink pair of cowgirl boots. I am that weirdo who buys gifts year round like yes I do my Christmas and birthday shopping early and just hide and save it I am actually planning a desert trip this Christmas when I going back to Cali so maybe I will get through palm Springs again!! XO Tera

Charmane (Super)Star

Hollywood life

Of COURSE my first Friend post is going to be about my best girlfriend / sister / partner in crime Charmane Star!! Who is Charmane and how  did we meet? Well if you’re new here, or new to me,  let’s go back in time to 1999. June of 1999 is when I started working in the Adult Industry. I had graduated nursing school and was working as a nurse. Two things happened simultaneously. The first being I did a test shoot for Playboy magazine, and the second is me being introduced to the biggest well only talent agent in adult films at the time Jim South of World Modeling Agency. It’s now August of 1999 and I’ve dipped my toes into Adult cinema. Having posed for nudie or Lad Mags and shot my fist adult feature film (Aroused) by Andrew Blake I had moved unbeknownst  to me to the “Porno Apartments” in Woodland Hills California. Since most adult films back then were filmed in The San Fernando Valley Woodland Hills had a few sets of apartments where Adult talent could easily rent and live your best life away from civilians. On a weekday afternoon lazing by the pool I was sunning and bathing and so was Charmane. We struck up a conversation and lo and behold we both work in Porn!! We are both from Norcal! We’re both asian! We both have the afternoon off! So let’s go get sushi and see what else we have in common!! LOL This turned into a fun afternoon and the start of a beautiful friendship. It’s twenty three years that  we’ve been friends. We’ve traveled together, celebrated life, and death , marriage and divorce (Me), we even bought our dogs together at the same time! I got my Chopper  a Toy Fox Terrier in Florida in 2003 and Charmane adopted Astrid a Chow-Labrador mix .We’ve  been next door neighbors twice over the years both of us living in West Hollywood . It was Charmane who  was by my side when I took my pregnancy test  and she was the only person (besides Tony the father) who knew I was pregnant for 3 months until I announced it. I KNOW she can keep a secret ! She was also there with me in labor and when I delivered Sophia :} Charmane is one of the closest people to me. Now that I live in Italy and she lives in France we are still very close and next door neighbors again! Well our countries count right ! I just wanted to give our back story and share a few OG pics of us! Enjoy XO Tera

Aston Martin

What’s your Dream car? For years mine was an Aston Martin Vanquish. You know how long I had it one week! I took it back and said “here I can’t work this thing !  That was over ten years ago and now living here in Italy I drive a Mini Cooper S! I traded my Vanquish for a Jaguar which some may say is a downgrade but there’s no sense keeping a car you just can’t be comfortable in or drive is my opinion! I’ve owned a few of my dream cars over the years and the Aston Martin  still remains one of my favorites . They are  so beautiful! My girlfriend  Janelle was kind enough to loan me one for my Wheels and Heels Shoot http://www.wheelsandheelsmag.comthis past trip to Los Angeles, I hope you enjoy!! XO Tera
